Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania

statute of limitations in Pa

I was wondering what the statue of limitations is on a debt collector in Pa. My husband and I are trying to buy a house and there is a seven year old collections on our credit report keeping us from getting the loan. the creditors also have sent letters within the last few months. When I called the creditor and ask them to remove this they told me that they could contiue to collect on this debt until it has been settled.

The statute of limitations is 4 years. It can remain on your credit report for 7 years.

They often try to collect after the statute of limitations period. If you admit that it's your debt, they can successfully argue that the time period starts over for another 4 years. You need to have an attorney deal with the collection agency for you.
