Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania

Statute of limitations on past credit card bill

I have a past credit card bill from seven years ago from a bank that has since merged into another company. The account is now with a collection agency who is threatening legal action. I have made payments on the account, but I have been unable to make payments recently. My question is twofold; 1. What is the statute of limitations on an account from a bank since closed or merged, and 2. can a collection agency still pursue such an account?

Re: Statute of limitations on past credit card bill

There is a 4 year statute of limitations in PA. This runs from the date of the last payment. The new bank, or any later owner of this account, can collect from you anytime within the statute. Please call or e-mail me if you need further help. Good luck.
