Sueing for a credit card debt
I have a credit card debt from the year 2000. The credit card company turned it over to a collection agency and they are sending me certified letters saying that if I do not pay this debt that they are going to sue me, or file a small claims complaint against me for this debt, so I was wondering if they can do this?, since is it almost 6 years and I was wondering if they is a statue of limitations on sueing me?, or taking me to small claims court for this debt that is 6 years old. Thank You.

The statute of limitations for this type of contract is 4 years.

The statute of limitations on this contract is 4 years. However, that's 4 years from the last time you acknowledged the debt. In other words, if you talked with them on the phone or had some type of communication with them in which you said something like "yeah, that's my debt", the 4 years runs from that time.
