Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania

I won a judgement in the amount of $3000.00 from a woman who moved to the neighboring state. How can I move foreward to collect the money? I am in PA and she is in NJ. Thanks

You will need to contact an attorney in New Jersey who specializes in the collection of judgments. I am only licensed in GA, PA & NC.

Generally, each state follows the uniform enforcement of judgment act. It will require you to register the PA judgment in NJ. The debtor has to be notified. Assuming that the judgment was properly entered, NJ will give it "full faith and credit" under the US and state constitutions. What this means to you is that they will enforce it like a New Jersey judgment once it is registered.

Some states have wage garnishment (like GA) and some do not (like PA and NC). I do not know if New Jersey has it or not. If they do, you can garnish her wages. You might also be able to levy on her bank account or go after any other assets that she has. Good luck.
