Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania
Written contract
My boyfriend borrowed $3500 from his brother for legal fees. He had us both sign a paper he made up that we could work it off at his business or pay $50 per week. My boyfriend worked for him every weekend up until he went to prison, and gave him his income tax. Then I tried to get him to let me work for him to help pay it off. I worked 1 day, then suddenly he had nothing for me to do. Now he's threatening that if I dont pay $50 per week, he's taking it to the district magistrate. None of this money borrowed went to me. There's no way I alone can afford $50 per week. What can I do?

Re: Written contract
Your options seem limited, beyond having the written agreement looked at by a lawyer. If you 1)both signed the agreement, 2) and if that agreement is valid; 3) and if you have the option of either working the debt off OR paying $50 per week; 4) and if there is no work available, then it looks like you need to come up with $50, 5) or you may be in breach of the agreement.
Do yourself a favor and fix the problem now while it is small--see one of my colleages here on this board (in your area) who will give you a consultation to examine the document to see what it really says; it may not say what you think it does. Ignoring it will only make the problem bigger and more expensive to correct.
