Does my son need a lawyer for a preliminary hearing for a criminal complaint? 2 men harassed him and his friend, but my son pulled out a knife and was charged with aggravated assult.

Aggravated Assault is a felony with a likely jail/prision sentence even for a

first offense. An attorney may be able to limit the possible chrges to lesser

included offenses or get the charges dropped. I offer free initial

consultations.

Re: aggravated assult

Your son should have a lawyer, this could become a serious case. if you can't afford one, get him a lawyer from the public defenders. He should not waive his preliminary hearing unless he talks to a lawyer first. Good Luck.

Yes, your son does need an attorney. If you cannot afford one you should immediately call the public defender's office. If you would like to discuss this further please feel free to call my office.
