Legal Question in Criminal Law in Pennsylvania

Caught Shoplifting

I just turned 21 and got shoplifting. I was told by the officer on the scene that I will be charged with a misdemeanor. This is my first offence. I have a clean record except for speeding tickets. I am very worried about my future, I need to keep my record clean, as I am aspiring for a federal job. I've never stolen before, but this went bad. I used a knife to remove the product from the shelf, exited the store with the merchandise, and then gave it back when confronted. I refused to go with store personnel, and attempted to run. I was apprehended by another stores security guard. The police kept my pocket knife. Set of bad circumstances for me. I said I ran because I was scared, which I was. I didn't think they could follow me out of the mall. I was wrong. What should I do? Should I get an attorney? How much will it cost? Can I do it without an attorney? Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Caught Shoplifting

You should retain counsel ASAP, especially if you ever want to have a federal job! Second, DON'T EVER confess anything to the police, THEY ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS, they arrest people!

The sooner you retain counsel the better your chances may be! I offer free consultations and look forward to hearing from you if you desire legal representation.

Sincerely,
