Legal Question in Criminal Law in Pennsylvania
check fraud I think?
I am a cashier and was given a check by a customer I didn't look at what the customer had written on the check. I just finished the transaction and stuck the check in my drawer. When I went to close out my drawer my checks were short I had put the wrong amount in my register for this one check. I panic caused my drawer was short and I was afraid to go to my boss and tell him what I did. I look at the check and changed one of the numbers to make it balance at the end. I didn't take any money I just wanted my drawer to balance. the customers check was $50 over to cover the shortage. Now I am wracked with guilt and want to rectify this situaation. I don't want my company to get in trouble I want to make things right. I hope this makes sense as what I an trying to say. basically I changed a check that shouldn't been changed. The error hasn't been found yet but I can't take this guilt I dont want to go to jail I think I would die in jail if I did. I just want to make things right for myself. I thought about quitting and just hiding my head in the sand but that makes me look even more quilty And I spoke to one person and they said they can't really give me legal advice until i have been charged with a crime. Please help

Re: check fraud I think?
find a lawyer. pay him $250 and instruct him to mail a check for $50 anonymously to the drawee if his/her identity is known or knowable. otherwise, send the 50 to the storeowner. alternatively, have a more direct and non-anonymous attempt made to correct your one-time malfeasance. if u have no prior record, you shall not be jailed if you do the right thing.
good luck,
