Legal Question in Criminal Law in Pennsylvania

whos dog is it

Last winter, my family took in a stray dog. I thought he may have come from a house down the street. I tried about 10 times to return the dog to that house, but found nobody home. The neighbors said the man had moved out. The house seemed empty. We decided to keep the dog. We took him to vet and nursed him to good health. About 6 or 7 months later, the man from down the street came to my house and wanted his dog. My wife and kids had become attached to the dog and I didn't want to give him away. The man admitted that he left the dog while he was ''out of town'' for a couple of months. The man wanted $120 for the dog. We negotiated and he took $30 in cash. Everything seemed fine, until last week. The man has returned again, demanding his dog or $120. I refused to give him anything. He has badgered us with phone calls and has threatened to take the dog if he gets a chance. He's even threatened to charge me with dog napping. Does he have a case? Who has legal rights to the dog?

Re: whos dog is it

You do. You probably didn't have to pay him anything since the dog was "abandoned property" but since you did pay, you bought the dog.
