email prank gone bad

I recently broke up with my boyfriend and had a partial breakdown. I emailed him some mean spirted and vulgar emails-nothing threatening, under a madeup email name. Then, having actually thought of my actions, I went into his email (through forgot passward) and deleted all his messages including the ones that I had sent. Now, he is persuing this legally and doesn't know that I was the culprit. Can they find out that it was me that sent these emails? What legal actions can be taken against me civil and/or criminal?

You have a bigger problem than sending harassing emails. It's a much more serious crime to go into someone's email without authorization.

The bottom line here probably nothing is going to happen, can you be charged with a criminal or civil action, absolutely, but the police are not going to do an investigation as long as you DON'T DO IT AGAIN!........more importantly stay away from him NO CONTACT.......the police will probably only intervene if you keep bothering him. But it couldn't hurt to retain an attorney now, before anyone calls you....also under no circumstances should you make a statement to the police or your ex-boyfriend or your friends, because if you do this can be used against you.
