Legal Question in Criminal Law in Pennsylvania
False charges
Hi,I filed a private complaint with the state of Pennsylvania which charged someone with simple assault and terroristic threats. I understand that it is picked up by the state. I was told by a law student that if I were to say that I made false statements the state would be forced to drop the charges, and I would recieve a $50 fine. Is this true?

Re: False charges
It is a Misdemeanor 2. Unsworn Falsification to authorities. On a first offense, it would probably not entail jail time but I would imagine court coust would be a lot higher than $50. If you have made false accusations you need to contact an attorney. I offer free consultations.
Re: False charges
Your first mistake was asking a law student for advice. Either the statements are true and they will prosecute or you lied to the police and they will prosecute you, if you just happened to forget you will be held in contemp of court. You need to consult with an Attorney ASAP.
