a pd and is a court appointed lawyer. the judge sees them both the same so the judge isn't going to help you. remember that you are entitled to a lawyer, not a lawyer of your choosing.
if you want to pick your lawyer, you have to pay for it.

You may be entitled to a free lawyer, but not to your choice of free lawyers. If you want a different lawyer, hire one and pay for it.
