Legal Question in Criminal Law in Pennsylvania

Forgery charge

i am writing to get some legal advice about a forgery charge my fiance has. we had a lawyer to represent him paid the lawyer $1,000 up front and the lawyer now will not reprsent him unless we come up with another $3,000. so basically he is gonna have represent himself. so the story is my fiance was doing a ton of work for a woman in her 70-80s she always paid him for the work hes done. either by check or cash . well the woman from time to time would just tell him write the check out a go cash it. she would pencil in the amount to balance the check book. so he went to cash the checks and the bank became suspicous they called aging protection services now they are pressing these charges. not only did the woman say she didn't want to press charges but it took 4 months from the time the ''incidents'' happened to press these charges. what can be done we have a family and i desperatly need to get him some legal advice to avoid going to jail for crime he didn't commit. please someone help

Re: Forgery charge

Obviously the cost of defense would vary depending on the complexity of the case. If it is a misdemenor theft charge many private attorneys would handle the case for less than the $3000.00 demanded of you. Second, the first attorney should have provided a written fee letter unless you had utilized his services befor. If the fee letter requires he provide a defense through trial for the original $1000.00 you can probably get a portion of the money back. It is important to contact an attorney as soon as possible to preserve certain rights including the right to file pre-trial motions. I offer free consultations.
