Legal Question in Criminal Law in Pennsylvania

guilty of bouncing a check

I bounced a check at a local store and because we bank at the same institution it was never resubmitted. Unaware 4 days later wrote 2 other checks with a problem. The retailer sent a registered check but I was not able to pick up the mail. The accused me of writing a bad check and I received a summons from the local magistrate. This was my first notice that the check was still outstanding. I went immediately and paid the merchant the money in cash.

Am I guilty of writing a bad check?

Re: guilty of bouncing a check

I haven't dealt with this issue for a while but I think you're OK. In order to pursue a criminal charge for a bad check there's a requirement that the payee make a demand for payment by certified mail. If you've made the check good I think you are ok.
