If someone you know calls your home and leaves a messageon your answering machine calling you obsene names and telling you there coming to your home to do whaterver they want. What is that considered? Is there anything that can be done to this person?

It depends what they threatened. Did they threaten to physically assult you? It may be possible (depending on what was said) that the police could charge this person with terroristic threats of some other minor charge. However, it is unlikely the police will actually do anything without some action by this person.
I'd suggest you file an incident report with the police to document the incident and what was said. If possible, save the recording for a while to see if the situation escallates.
