Legal Question in Criminal Law in Pennsylvania
harassment
I was wondering what can be done about someone sending harassing text messages to me? I believe the person sending them is from another state. Are there any laws on the books that can help me prosecute this person? They have not been of the life threatening manor, just a pain in the butt. I have been advised to change my number but I would really like to find out who is doing this. What can I do?

Re: harassment
Repeated communication done anonomiously fit the definition of harrassment. Contact your local police and file a incident report. The police will then decide if they wish to pursue charges. If they don't you can file a private criminal complaint at the district attorney's office in the county that you live in. I offer free consultations.
Re: harassment
This is a form of Harrassment, the only problem you have is determining who is sending you these messages, are they using multiple phones and phone numbers, if so you probably will have a difficult time tracking them down. In reality it probably is someone you a.) either formerly dated or b.) pissed off enough to care....in any event changing your number is the easiest way to deal with this course of conduct.

Re: harassment
You didn't say how this person may have gotten your number. Do you suspect that it is someone you know? What do the messages say? What can be done? The other attorneys are right about the courses of action for harassment, but depending on the answers to the questions above there may be more, or less, that you can do.
