Herrassment

My wife's boyfriend tried to run me off the road. He went to police and told them I ran him off the road. Police wrote ticket for harassment and wreckless driving without witnesses. police officer and ''boyfriend'' are friends. Can the police officer legally do that?

Yes, the police can legally do that. So, you should plead not guilty and request a trial. Then, see who appers for the hearing with direct evidence that you did what is claimed. The officer's bias should be presented to the MDJ at your hearing. An attorney can accomplish this most effectively.

CAN the police write a citation based on the statement of someone else? Yes. However, you cannot be convicted of it unless the boyfriend (or another direct witness) shows up and testifies against you.

Although it is just a summary, you should get an attorney to represent you. The boyfriend may be trying to build a stronger case against you for the future with this charge.
