Can a 17 yr old be picked up or arrested and questioned without a parent present and taken to the county jail if he is charged as adult?

How long was he detained? What were the charges? Did he ask to speak to an attorney...these are basic facts you have left out....however, relying on your question, the simple answer is yes...a parent is NOT an attorney...the bottom line here is you need to retain legal counsel for your child ASAP. Failure to do so may make the situation worse for him.
