First Offense Check Forgery
If you are an employee and a check is given to you without being signed and you sign it to go through so the customer doesn't get in trouble for not completing a check but has the supplies and leaves with them is that employee in trouble with the law?

Re: First Offense Check Forgery
This sounds like a situation where there is no criminal intent on the part of the actor. However, just because someone is innocent in his or her mind does not mean that a prosecutor, judge, or jury would necessarily see it the same way. Check cases are not generally speaking complex - but still, anyone in this situation should speak privately and at length with a defense attorney.
I will mention one fact that is important - the owner of the check would have to appear in court and testify against the employee in order for any kind of forgery or theft charges to stick. If the owner of the check is not a willing complainant, it would be difficult for a prosecution to succeed.
