Legal Question in Criminal Law in Pennsylvania
Pressing Charges
I recently borrowed a friend's car (im covered on their insurence) The car had its bumper beaten with some sort of blunt object we arnt sure. The guy that we think that did it we have no actual witnesses or proof, but we have a conversation from gmail that he talks about doing it...I am afraid this may not be enough to get him because they can be foreged rather easily.
ANYWAY
This happened on university property and the rent a cop files for criminal mischief charges to be filed labeling me as the victim, but I dont own the car and therfore I didn't get screwed over in this endeavor. I was wondering if the charges will even stick to the guy and since I didn't loose anything arnt the charges invalid?
Thanks

Re: Pressing Charges
You should probably be listed as a witness rather than a victim but that wouldn't really affect charges of this nature.
The probable outcome is that he will agree to plead to a summary offense and pay restitution. Even though the evidence may be weak, there is too much of a risk to go to trial if yo have the chance to plead to a summary.
