Legal Question in Criminal Law in Pennsylvania
privacy in legal issue
I recently have been charged with Possession of Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphenalia with intent to use charges based on an incident from March 07. Police came to my house after a suicide call from my dad and found some things I'm not proud of. I am a criminology MA student, and a behavioral therapist in town. Is there anything I can do to keep this matter out of the newspaper. I have a lawyer, he's out of town for the week, my court date is 8/15 and i need to figure out whether to tell my employer now. I work with children and I need to save my families and my company some embarrassment if this will definitely get in the paper, and just quit now. I am clean, no previous record, and the police did come to my house that nite for mental health purposes. Please let me know ASAP. thanks

There isn't a lot that I think we can tell you about this. I don't know of any way to avoid publicity in a small town. but I'm not so sure you're going to get publicity. Whether or not you should tell your employer depends upon your employer's policies. Remember that you are innocent until you either plead or are found guilty. It sounds to me like this will be a plea bargain and your employer may not be concerned if it was marijuana. But only your own lawyer can give you advice. I'd just wait until they get back from vacation and talk to them.
