Legal Question in Criminal Law in Pennsylvania

Probation question

I was arrested for theft 2 yrs ago. Since I had no priors I was put into a program where I had probation and had to pay back restitution. I've been out of work for a few months now. I got a letter stating if I didn't have my debt paid by the time my probation ended, it could be revoked or extended. I know the debt wont' be paid by then. Is here anything I can do to make sure I get the extension? I'm a single parent with no family and I can't go to jail and have social services take my children.

What can I do?

Re: Probation question

dress nice, sound contrite and explain it to the judge the way you presented it here. hire a lawyer and nip the problem in the bud before you are picked up and carted off by probation authorities. more likely is that you will receive a rule returnable commanding your appearance before the court.

good luck

Re: Probation question

You can petition the court for a possible extension of your duty to repay the debt...of course this will probably incur an additional probationary period and all the problems associated with that as well.

My office also offers flat rate pricing and free consultations, for additional information please visit my firm's website at www.AlleghenyAttorneys.com or by calling my office at 412.731.0865.
