protect family and property
Is it not true that under the constitution you have the right to protect person and property without having to retreat.to avoid assailant?

You can meet force with as much force as is reasonably necessary to repel the force. And no, that has nothing to do with the constitution, that's just common law. You CANNOT use deadly force to protect property. HOWEVER, if you are asking, it's likely that you have been arrested or sued for using force that YOU thought was reasonable, but that was NOT reasonable.
