Legal Question in Criminal Law in Pennsylvania

My question may be a bit unusual for a service like this, but this service seems to be the best sort of place to turn for my answers. I am a writer working on a story that involves a pedestrian being killed in a hit-and-run by a drunk driver, and it is discovered that the driver is a friend of the victim's son. My questions are: (a) What all possible charges could the driver be charged with and what are the likely sentences of each? (b) Which, if any, of these charges would the victim's family be able to drop should they decide to do so? Thank you for your time, especially considering the nature of my request. Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
