If this is your first offense, you might be able to convert it to a disorderly conduct citation if the store, the cop and the judge can be convinced. You might also request an alternate sentencing of some kind, and do some community service hours in return for the judge dismissing the case, but this is no slam dunk request.

I suggest you hire an attorney ASAP. Having a theft on your record is no laughing matter, and it could really cost you down the road. And if you're young (as I suspect you are), you've got a long road ahead of you. Best of luck to you.

An attorney would be a good investment in this case. It is not as astronomically expensive as you might think. Your future is always a consideration. People are very human and they make sorrowful mistakes. If you are genuinely sorry about your error, the courts may help you with a disposition that will not cause irreparable damage.

I handle many of these types of matters and would be glad to help you.

Call me if you want to talk about it. 215-732-4000
