How long after an informant tells police what he saw do they have to serve a search warrant?

An informants statements to police can serve as the basis for a warrant for a period of time that is rationally related to the information he has. For example, a thousand pounds of drugs could be expected to last a dealer quite a bit of time, whereas half a pound of drugs might be a one day supply.
