Legal Question in Criminal Law in Pennsylvania

What self-defense devices are legal in PA? I was thinking of purchasing a type of self-defense device that I could carry around in PA and use, if needed, without worry of legal ramifications. Most notably, the device I am most interested in is a retractable baton, being sold as an emergency escape tool and glass breaker made of pure steel.

ยง 908. Prohibited offensive weapons is not exactly clear on what preponderance of evidence in the case of defense against an allegation is justifiable in the carrying of items; nor is the section very clear on what is not prohibited; at least to a layman.

If you could recommend a list of devices legally allowed for self-defense and advice on any questioning in case caught with a device, that would be terrific.

Beyond the legal aspects you have to consider what you can use effectively and appropriately. As well as actually use it. If nothing else you'll probably want to up your liability insurance. Because even if what you have is legal the next legal question was your using it an appropriate. If not you could be arrested or even sued. Lastly you may be providing a weapon to to an assailant that was unarmed.

I wouldn't bother getting weapons.
