Legal Question in Criminal Law in Pennsylvania

my sons friend stole 3 checks from him,wrote them out to himself,forged my sons signature and cashed them. this kid has been in and out of jail several times for drugs and other theft charges.how much prison time could he do? the officer said there would be 3 charges each for forgery,theft and receiving stolen property.he is now out on probation for a failed drug test

Depends on how much the checks were for. Also what sort of criminal record he has.
