use off ss number

my estranged wife usred my ss number to access an account with a financial institution i had a car loan with, without my consent or knowledge. we have been seperated for more than a year and a half, and i find out she has accessed this account last yr. and six days later filed for a divorce that has still not gone through. do i have any grounds for filing charges or anything else? according to my lawyer it is a crimnal act. according to ther police their is nothing they can do.

Identity theft is a very hot topic in law enforcement. I do not think what she has done is identity theft. However, the actions of your ex-wife seem to indicate that she only accessed your acount. Did she do anything with the information? Did she open up her own accounts, transfer money etc...?

These are questions that only an investigation by your lawyer or by law enforcement can answer. Good luck and please consult the lawyer you have further.
