Stealing

I install satelite dishes. i installed a dish last month the gentleman asked me to remove the unsightly dishes from the house i told him i ciould nt then i was busy but when i had a chance would call and stop by and remove them i did justr that. unknown to me that in the mean time another tennant moverd in a was using the dish i removed.i recieved a call from the state police i told him the story and he thought it was a misunderstanding and to return it in the morning which i did. i told them it was under warranty and if it a lil outta line to call and someone wopuld fix itr free i offered to pay as weell. now the cop wants to charge me with stealing if i cant produce the guy thatr tolsd me to remove it. am i gonna go to jail and can i beat this bogus charge?

You have a decent defense from your post. A claim of right (You had permission) is a defense to stealing) it would help if you can locate the man but not necessary. You should speak to a lawyer.
