do i have to testify. i wanted tio drop the charges against my friend. state said no. how can i get out of testifying. he took my car, i pressed charges and want to drop them.

You can't get out of a subpoena. However, tell the DA that you don't wish to testify and don't want to pursue the charges.
If they insist that you testify, you have to do so. However, while you can't lie on the witness stand, you also don't have to say anything that would incriminate your friend.
You could just go up on the witness stand and say that you 'don't recall' if, in fact, you don't recall.
