Writing in Wet Concrete

My 15 year old son wrote his first name in a wet sidewalk. Now he has to go to court and possibly pay 2,100 for a new 'pad', as well as possibly be charged with a Felony (!) The borough we live in had the concrete repoured. Should we have been given an option to hire a contractor ourselves to do the work? I am pretty sure we could have had it done for less than 2,100.

Out of all the nonsense that I've seen and heard about lately, this really takes the cake. I feel sorry for kids these days.

I don't think that this should be any kind of charge, let alone a felony. If any charges are brought I'd ask the juvenile probation officer for an "informal adjustment" pursuant to Rule 312 of the Rules of Juvenile Court Procedure.

The more likely scenario, though, is that this will be a Summary before a District Magistrate Judge as they are now called and that you son may have to do some community service.

if we are being honest, i would be far less concerned with money and much more concerned with a felony charge. did they offer him a consent decree? if not, why not. did they offer him community service for a dismissal.
