Each crime is different, it depends upon the state and whether other crimes are involved. This is a general question not capable of a more precise answer. Most statutes of limitation are available on the web somewhere.

What is the crime? The statute of limitations is different depending on the crime involved. Can range from two years to life. In addition, for some crimes, the statute of limitations does not begin to run until the fact that a crime was committed is discovered. There is no way to answer the question without knowing the crime involved.
