Legal Question in DUI Law in Pennsylvania

Got a Dui in GA and moved to Pa

I got a dui in Ga, the conviction date was august 06. I moved to PA with a license that is only good in GA. Technically my GA license is a limited permit to drive to work and back. I did not do the dui school or pay the reinstatement fee to GA and they want me to come back to do school. Can I go and get a new license in PA?

Probably not. However, you will not know until you try. It is more important that you do not lie on any license application in PA or else you will/can be arrested for false statements.

There is a chance that since you have a restricted license in GA that they have not submitted your name & license information to the national database as a "flagged" driver. The flag will indicate to PA that you should not receive a license. This is one actual result of how September 11, 2001 will affect your life (if it didn't in the first place). States are sharing more information more effectively than they did prior to 9/11.

GA will most likely not reinstate your license until you finish your probation requirements in GA. You need to determine if GA will accept a DUI school in PA. Many times they will. If you need additional help in communicating with GA, let me know. I handle license restoration every day. Thanks & good question.
