Legal Question in DUI Law in Pennsylvania
PA DMV vs CA DMV - Alcohol Abuse Classes
I received a DUI in CA a while back. The CA courts have permitted me to attend Alcohol Abuse classes in my home state of PA. My lawyer, in California, has warned me while the PA classes will meet the courts requirements, PA DMV and CA DMV may not work together and I will be at risk of `permenantly` losing my license. Don`t all DMV`s work on a nation-wide network? Do you have information on PA DMV`s policy and if this is routine?

Yes and No....PennDot is the one responsible for suspending your PA license, in the event you still have a California license CADOT may also be in the process of doing this....as to whether there is reciprocity for suspensions between PA & CA yes there is....the question you need to find out is to what extend......I recommend retaining an attorneys as soon as possible before this becomes any more convoluted.

In Pa any alcohol highway safety classes are part of the criminal court sanction for the DUI offense. The drivers license suspension, any ignition interlock requirement and any license restoration fee is imposed by PennDOT. If you have any questions you should contact PennDOT and request a restoration requirements letter which will spell out exactly what steps you need to take to restore your Pa driving privileges.
