I presume you are referring to citing a case, statute or regulation. Without knowing your specific citations, I cannot specifically answer your questions. The proper form of citations can be found in "The Blue Book: A Uniform System of Citation" which can be obtained in county and university libraries. Each publication has its own unique manner of citations. Generally speaking, for case law cite in the following order: case name (underlined or italics),volume number, publication abbreviation, page, court and year (in parens). For e.g. Polk v. Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit, 53 F.2d. 171 (3rd Cir. 1988). Statutes and regulations are citied in the following form: Title, state or federal law abbreviation, Section. For example, 20 U.S.C. section 1415 or 34 C.F.R. section 300.26. These citations refer to the United States Code and Code of Federal Regulations respectively.
