Re: Learning disability

Federal law imposes requirements on colleges to not discriminate against persons based upon disability. The requirements are different for colleges than they were for elementary and high school, which are required to offer a Free Appropriate Public Education based upon individual needs. Colleges are only required to provide appropriate accomodations. In order to establish the need for accomodations, you must follow the school's procedures for proving your entitlement.

Most colleges have an office or administrator who deals with disability services (he or she may be called the Section 504 Coordinator). You may contact this person to express your concerns. If you believe you are still being discriminated against, you may wish to file a complaint or contact an education or civil rights law attorney to discuss your options.
