Legal Question in Elder Law in Pennsylvania
Mom's house
My sister is power of attorney for my mom. We just found out that she sold mom's house to herself and her husband for $1.00. Now mom can't get her senior discount for taxes nor did she know about the sale of her home. Is it legal for her to do that? If we ask her about it, she tells us she's power of attorney and doesn't have to tell us anything. Please let us know if anything can be done. Mom is real upset about what she did, she doesn't even have any paper work on the sale.

Re: Mom's house
Your mother needs to consult with a local attorney immediately. The attorney will first review the Power of Attorney document itself and then review the deed to the property. Thereafter, depending on what the paperwork shows, there may be a valid cause of action against your sister.
Sam Rossitto, one of my law partners, would be happy to offer your mother a free consultation in his Chestnut Hill office. You may schedule an appointment by calling him at 215.242.3830 or you may reach him by e-mail at [email protected].
