Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania

I need your help. I have an 8 year old autistic son that is currently living with my Mom. She filed an emergency petition for temporary custody. I went to court, without an attorney. I had brain surgery over a year ago. I had a benign tumor that was totally removed. My Mom and her attorney are trying to paint me as incompetent. I am on disability for headaches only at this point. My Mom's attorney pulled up medical records from 9 months ago. I have improved since then. I need to prove to the judge that I am doing better now. When I was accepted for disability, medical assistance dropped me, stating I make too much money. I can get on a medical program besides medical assistance that is funded through donations. This other program, PALCO in Lancaster County, Pa, will not accept me until I have lived here for 3 months. I have only lived in Lancaster County for 2 months. Can I have an attorney postpone my next courtdate for June 21, or can lawyer order me to have an MRI done without medical insurance and tack it on his bill? I also believe that the judge was very much bias with my case. I told the judge how my Mom has left my son unattended and had the stove on. My son almost grabbed the hot pan off the stove. I was shocked when the judge commented, "Sometimes people forget." Can I also request another judge?

Yes, it is possible for an attorney to get a continuance for you. I would suggest that you retain a lawyer right away. As you have already seen, it is very difficult to prevail in court when the one side has a lawyer and you don't.

If you can't afford an attorney, I would suggest that you call Mid Penn Legal to see if you qualify for free legal help.

If you would like to retain a lawyer, feel free to call me. I offer free phone consultations.
