Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania

I have a 5 year old daughter who has not seen her birth father for over 3 years. He has made no attempt to see her and has never paid any child support. Now my fiance would like to adopt her and I don't know what I need to do to make the adoption happen. Where do I start?

You need to file two things simultaneously: a Petition to Involuntarily Terminate Parental Rights, and a Petition for Adoption. Both are filed in your county's Orphans' Court.

You should consult with a family law attorney in your area to assist you with these. It's possible to do them yourself, but everything must be firmly in place to succeed. A Court will *not* cut corners or cut you a break when it comes to such serious business. Contact your county's Bar Association if you need suggestions for an attorney.

Best of luck to you.
