Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania

I'm a 16 year old female. When I was 12 years of age my mother passed away and ever since I recieve a social security check for $700 a month. Which I will get until i am 18 years of age. I currently am under the custody of my father. My goal is to get emancipated. I need to know what the requirements are to do so. Also would the social security check be enough to support me so i could get granted emancipation?

Getting an emancipation depends on the facts. The Court will look to see if you will be able to support yourself and they will look at why you want emancipated. Whether 700 is enough to live on is hard to say as well. The bigger question is; will anybody rent to you? The judge will want to see that you have some sort of living arrangements. Its hard to say based on this post, whether the Court would grant this or not. Its not the easiest of things to get accomplished.

If you wanted to proceed with this, you will need to consult with an attorney to have him/her file the petition in court and represent you (this will require a hearing before the judge).

If you would like to discuss this further, feel free to give me a call. I offer free phone consultations.
