Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania

My 17 year old niece is pregnant and unable to are for the baby. She has asked me to take over guardianship and possibly adopt it. What is the process for guardianship?

As my colleague above eludes to, the child's father has rights to the child, unless the father is unknown or has voluntarily relinquished his rights to the child. So my first word of caution to you is first find out about the child's father: if the identity of the father is known and he is over 18 reach out to the father and seek his consent.

The reason I suggested to make sure father is over 18 because those under 18 can not enter into legally binding contracts, Your niece being may have some issues of her own since she is under 18. I would suggest you contact an attorney who specializes in Family Law issues.
