Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania
Alimony
I have been married for 6 years. Things are shaky now and I'm contemplating separation/divorce. I have always made more money than my husband and have paid all the bills. For the last year I have been paying my husband's bills too because he's self-employed after a layoff & the business hasn't made any money. Will I have to pay him alimony if we get divorced? If so, how much and for how long? I make over $75K/annually.

Re: Alimony
It would be hard to say how much and how long without knowing more facts.
Alimony in Pennsylvania isn't easy top get. Generally, its awarded if the end result of Equitable Distribution is inadequate to allow the parties to move forward after the divorce. This is only 1 of 17 factors that are used to determine if alimony is awarded and the amount and duration of alimony payments.
The good news is that if its awarded alimony is a reduction to income for Federal Tax purposes. It is taxable income to the recipient.

Re: Alimony
There is insufficient information to hazard an opinion. Six years is a realatively short marriage and generally less likely to involve alimony. The other marital assets you accumulated during the marriage and the distribution of same will have an impact on this as well as other factors to be evaluated. You should consult with an attorney.
