alimony and spousal support

My husband is disabled and receives SSID and VA checks. If we divorce, after 42 years of marriage, will I have to pay him alimony or spousal support out of my wages? Do his checks count as earnings?

Alimony is awarded if equitable distribution is not enough to allow the parties to go on with their lives.
