Is He A Bigamist?

I have been separated from my husband for a little over a month now and plan on filing for a divorce. I recently found out that the relationship he had after his 1st marriage and before me was a marriage as well. From what he told me, they dated, they never married. Well, there's a marriage certificate that proves it. When I speak to an attorney, how will I find out if he ever in fact divorced her? If he never did, was my marriage ever legal? Also, we bought a van a few months ago. It's in his name alone as I already had a car in my name. Who's responsible for this payment. He said I am.

Unless your "husband" obtained a divorce of the first marriage, your marriage is definitely void. Therefore, you would not obtain a divorce, but an annulment.
