Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania

name change

I just went to the courthouse, social security and finally a lawyer to find out in the state of PA how to change from my married name and return to my maiden name. The confusion was impossible with the courthouse and ss, but the lawyer wanted $600 to do this. Tell me, will this ''kit'' be all that I need to legally do thison my own? I realize there are steps and filing fees and newspaper ads, but it will be a lot less then $600 ONLY if it is a complete program to make it happen. Please contact me before I buy.

Re: name change

If you were married and a divorce was filed in Pennsylvania you may retake your prior name by filing a simple form called an Election in the Office of the Prothonotary in the county where the divorce was filed. You can also get copies once you've filed the form, including certified copies if necessary. The cost is minimal. If you were divorced in another state you can file a certified copy of your decree in the Prothonotary's Office in the county where you live; then file the election.
