name change

my son who is 17 wants to change his last name to his step-father's name who has been in his life since he was 9mos. old. there has never been any contact from his natural father.

You asked about a name change.

A child over 16 years is able to make the choice himself. Even under 16 a natural father would have a hard argument to prevent such a change.

Congratulations and kudos on your son's choice. His father should be proud of the son he helped raise.
