Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania
changing my child's surname to my maiden name
After I divorced from my child's father, I was told that his last name he was using was not his real name. So I sent to the county seat of the county he was born and obtained his birth certificate. The name on his birth certificate is not the name on the marriage license or my daughters birth certificate. I would like to have my daughters name changed to my maiden name. How can I do this in the least expensive way?
Thank you,

Re: changing my child's surname to my maiden name
I suggest you file a change of name. Last year Pennsylvania in its wisdom instituted a requirement for fingerprinting all applicants for a name change. This will include your daughter. I suggest that you consult with an attorney for the cost. There are advertising requirements, a certification from a title company, and notice to your former husband. However, a petition has to filed and hearing has to attended in order to complete the name change. Good luck.
