child custody of a child thats not mine

i have a 17 year old friend of my daughters living with me since the middle of febuary because in incident happened to her at her home and she was put in the hospital and her father has not tried to reconcile and i dont not wish to send her home because she doesnt feel safe there and i do not feel safe sending her home.. so how do i go about getting legal custody of her?

How soon will she turn 18?

Did her parents voluntarily place her in your custody?

For what purpose do you feel you need legal custody?
