child custody

my son and grandson live with me . my son just died so now i need to know about getting legal custody ofmy grandson who i have been raising since he was 2months old and the mother is not in the picture nor has she been. she did call when she found out my son died. that is the firstwe heard from her in over 4 years. i asked her if she had any intention of tryinto take my grandson from me and she said no no i would never do that so i asked her if she would sign legal papers for me to have full custody i need these papers so i can get social sercurtiy his father was on that he was disabled. so can i just write up a paper stating she is giving full custody to me and meet at a nortory and sign them she did deny that she had no children with my son in the divorce papers is that enough of a document

Actually you should file a petition for custody. In most counties that will lead to a custody conciliation hearing. A meeting where mom can agree you have custody. If she agrees the master will draft an order for the court to sign.

Or in the alternative she can stipulate as to what custody will be. You then file a petition to make it a court order and you'll have the correct paperwork.
